In the years since its creation, blockchain has shown its promise in disrupting how industries handle transactions. In this presentation, we seek to show how blockchain and smart contracts are more than technologies for recording and ensuring exchange of value between two parties. These emerging technologies represent a way to strengthen the controls over reporting for financial information exchanged between a company and its shareholders. This presentation discusses the use of smart contracts in a revenue recognition and supply chain context. Proposed is an application in which smart contracts record financial data in an immutable blockchain ledger when all requirements for recognition are met. A model for corporate governance will highlight how the use of this technology can provide accurate financial information, strengthening the foundation for investor confidence in capital markets.
